Frequently asked questions when choosing a porcelain

What is the most economic porcelain in the UK and provides best value for money?
VMK 95 averages at £1.50 for av. Crown produced, excluding precious metals and labour.

What is the quickest throughput achievable?
As VMK 95 is a 3 layer build up, it’s possible to obtain a exceptionally fast but accurately shaded result. Other porcelains in its class may be as fast (but no faster) but often at the cost of loss of good shade reproduction.

I want to use one porcelain for all kinds of work and offer a different tiered service for my private customers. What are the best options?
If economics and fast throughput is your main criteria, VMK 95 is the best option as it is compatible with nearly all alloys, including high gold content Bio-compatible - alloys. With a comprehensive selection of addition powders including cervical, and 'Akzent' stains you can achieve more private orientated individualised crowns and bridges.
If providing the best looking crowns with added value features such as high flexural strength and low antagonist wear on opposing dentition is of importance, Omega 900 is the best porcelain. Again it has a number of effect porcelains and 'Akzent stains' which can be used to individualise the restoration.

I want to provide the very best high gold low fusing content (class IV alloy) crowns and bridges available?
Vita's 'Response' porcelain is the very finest porcelain in the world. It's available in 3D shades, ensuring the very best shade reproduction is obtained. Response is so different technically that it needs to be tried to explain.

I want to provide an All-Porcelain crown and Bridge service?
'Vita's In-Ceram' is the longest and most proven system on the market. Its trademark is that it has superb fit and high strength. In-Ceram makes up the core where the metal usually is, and Vita’s Alpha porcelain is used as the dentine and enamel layers.
There have been a few additions to the In-Ceram system. The sprint system enables fast turn around (same day service) not obtainable from other systems, and higher strength Zirconia porcelain enables 3 unit POSTERIOR bridges to be produced using In-Ceram cores.
You can start producing In-Ceram crowns and bridges for just £746 including vat. Compared to Procera (£13,000 and Empress £10,000 and Cerpress £5000) so you have the best value as well.
Cost per In-Ceram crown ranges from £2.50 to £5 per av. crown in materials alone.

I want to use a low cost alloy but produce a good looking crowns, what’s the best option?
You can use most non precious bonding alloys with VMK 95 or Omega 900. We recommend Nicor. With VMK 95 there is a ‘warm opaque’ which can be used to create an orange hue to compensate the grey metal behind. The end result is a superb warm looking crown. Alternatively use a high gold bonding alloy like Bio-Porta G.

What strength should I have for my porcelain?
Flexural strength is the key one. That’s the amount it flexes before it debonds. In any mouth there is a great amount of flexural movement and expansion and contraction from temperature changes. VMK 95 has a high flex strength of 85 MPA and Omega 900 101 MPA. The greater the flexibility, the better the reliability.
Most more synthetic porcelains have less strength which will mean more breakages and repairs to be made.

I want to tier my service more, reduce re-makes and create a true ‘value added service’ to my dentists. How do you propose I do this?
Introduce Vita’s 3D shading system. It’s a fool proof and easier way of taking shades based on Value. Chroma and Hue and because the shade is so precise the production in the lab is exact (even half shades). In other words what the dentist orders is what he/she gets.
